Example Custom Builds

Dixie Triggers can help you build a custom AR15 from the ground up. While we do not keep rifles like these in stock, it is not hard to take an existing rifle and modify it or take a stripped lower and build it up. Here are some examples of custom buids.

This carbine uses Spike's Tactical upper and lower, Stag Arms internal parts, Daniel Defense 300 AAC Blackout barrel and rail, Grip Pod vertical grip / bipod, Wilson Combat drop in trigger group, and decked out in Magpul Dark Earth. It has an Aimpoint Comp M4 red dot sight with Magpul flip up backup sights cowitnessed. This rifle is used for deer and hog hunting.

This rifle uses a Yankee Hill Machine upper and 20" barrel in 7.62x39mm with a Spike's Tactical lower, ATI 15" free float rail, Grip Pod vertical grip / bipod, Wilson Combat drop in trigger group, Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 scope, and Magpul MOE fixed buttstock. This rifle is set up for deer hunting.

This carbine uses Spike's Tactical upper and lower, Stag Arms internal parts, Daniel Defense 5.56 NATO lightweight profile barrel and 9" free float modular rail, and decked out in Magpul OD Green. It has a Yankee Hill Machine suppressor installed. This rifle is used for personal defense.

Commercial vs Milspec AR-15s Explained

The AR-15 is a rifle designed by ArmaLite and sold to Colt. The United States Military adopted the rifle as the M16. Through military use the M16 has undergone revisions that have increased reliability and function. Colt and other manufactures are currently marketing the AR-15 and its variants to both military entities and civilians. The only rifles that can be truly made to military specifications must be inspected and approved by the military and carry full auto parts (making it impossible for civilian ownership). Some manufacturers build AR-15 style rifles whose parts meet the same criteria for military use. We call this Milspec. Any deviation from the criteria for the sake of cost, accuracy, or looks we call Commercial.

The following is a short list of some of the criteria needed for approval for military use.

Barrels
1 in 7 twist rate, chrome lined chamber and bore, made with a specific steel composition called MIL-B-11595E, 5.56mm NATO chamber

Bolt Carrier Group (BCG)
M16 bolt carrier group, has an extension shroud so that the carrier cocks the hammer and not the firing pin, the carrier is beefier to reduce and smooth cycling time, the carrier has the material in the rear to provide a surface for auto sears to operate on, the BCG must be subjected to quality testing consistent with military requirements.

Lower
3.6oz buffer (H buffer), 1.148” buffer tube with flat back, the lower and upper must be hard anodized according to military requirements.
